Post & Beam Barn Foundation

Concrete Frost Wall

The best foundation for a post and beam barn is a concrete frost wall foundation. It best supports the weight distribution of the timber frame. Prior to pouring the foundation, the site needs to be cleared and footing trenches are dug below grade in accordance to code. This type of foundation is built using a continuous footing that is set below frost level.

A continuous concrete wall is then built on top of the footing that will be exposed above finished ground level 12" for water protection. A finished concrete slab is then poured on a compacted gravel base for a smooth finish inside the barn. We offer a barn board stamped concrete floor as an option to add further beauty to the barn. On top of the wall, we lay an authentic heavy timber sill that serves as the base of the barn.
