The Big E: A Barn Yard Tradition for 26 Years

Eastern States Exposition, more affectionately known simply as “The Big E,” is right around the corner.   This highly anticipated New England tradition will take place in West Springfield, MA, from September 16 through October 2, 2011.  While you’re there, be sure to stop by The Barn Yard’s display, just inside Gate 9, to check out samples of all our sheds, barns, garages and gazebos.

In addition, to world-class entertainment, terrific food and a thrilling midway, The Big E has, for the past 26 years, featured an extensive display of The Barn Yard’s many popular models. This year will be no exception. In preparation for the Friday, September 16^th opening, staff members from all three of our locations will be onsite for nearly two weeks before, building sheds, barns, garages and gazebos to be displayed throughout the festive, 17-day event.  Then, when the gates close on Sunday evening, October 2^nd, and the last visitors say goodbye, they’ll begin the week-long task of taking it all back down.

While an enormous amount of time and effort go into setting up, breaking down and staffing The Big E, staff members agree that it’s worth every minute.  They look forward to greeting customers, answering questions, and seeing people’s reactions to the many buildings on display.  Among visitors’ favorites are the custom garage and Grand Victorian, both of which are built specifically for the occasion.

Through the years, staff members have enjoyed a lot of memorable moments at The Big E.  Assistant Vice President Michael Maiscalco fondly recalls the year that Kara Wolters, UConn Basketball great and Olympic gold medalist, signed autographs in their booth.  “She towered over Everett, Sr., for a photograph, and the look on his face was priceless,” he laughs.

As part of The Barn Yard & Great Country Garages’ Big E celebration, specials are offered on virtually every model.  For those who can’t make it to The Big E, all three Barn Yard locations remain open and fully staffed and offer the same promotions.  The sale extends for a week after The Big E ends, giving customers time to think through their options and make a decision they’ll be happy with for years to come.
