Our timber framing crew recently raised the 22' x 22' Jackson Timber Frame Pavilion that we donated to the new park in Springfield that is named in Sullivan’s memory.
Gunnery Sergeant Thomas P. Sullivan Park, located in East Forest Park, Springfield, MA, is a new park built and named in Sullivan’s honor. Thomas Sullivan gave his life while defending his country on Thursday July 16, 2015 during an attack on a Naval Reserve Center in Chattanooga, TN.
When he was young, Thomas used to play on the spot of land where the new park is now located. He used to explore the area and carry his paddle boat down to the water and go out on the water, according to Jerry Sullivan, Tommy’s father.
The new park features walking trails, a canoe and kayak launch, and now a timber frame pavilion.
Everett Skinner IV, President of The Barn Yard & Great Country Garages, said:
From our family, we really want to thank you for the opportunity to build this for your son. Hopefully, it will be a nice place for your family and friends to come and reflect on his life. We are honored to be a part of it.
Prior to the raising, the Sullivan family & Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno visited our manufacturing & design facility to view the pavilion being manufactured on our state of the art CNC machine.
Included in this blog post are photos of the pavilion’s raising. Since these photos were taken, the pavilion was completed with roof decking and a standing seam metal roof.
