Post and Beam Barn Raising

The Barn Yard & Great Country Garages is proud to announce that we are constructing a 32' x 32' Post and Beam Timber Frame Carriage Barn at our Ellington Showcase Location. That means that we are now officially post and beam barn builders. In this blog post, we’ll provide a time lapse of barn raising day, show pictures from the construction, and encourage you to stop by and see the barn for yourself.

This 22' x 32' Post and Beam Carriage Barn with 10' lean-to is absolutely breathtaking. Our new Post and Beam Barns continue the traditions of our forefathers by utilizing authentic mortise & tenon joinery throughout, plus add a modern layer of strength by engineering, and all the while maintain an unmistakably classic New England post and beam barn look.

On raising day, the timbers were all ready to go, pre-cut with the most precise joinery available today, to the 1/32nd of an inch. 284 pieces were put together on raising day with 230 oak pegs. Every piece of pine was already as smooth as velvet, ready for stain. With the assistance of the crane, the barn raising took just over 4 hours on Tuesday this week. We were all awestruck by the beauty of the barn at the end of raising day.

Since raising day, the crew has already finished roofing and is beginning to side the barn in 1x8 vertical shiplap pine. Watch The Story of the Carriage Barn video to see the entire construction process and the finished barn.

If you happen to be driving by our Ellington location, be sure to stop by and walk through the barn for yourself. It’s a work of art.
